Daku Maharaj was a notorious bandit (daku) active in the Chambal region of India during the mid-20th century. He operated primarily in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
His gang was known for its daring robberies, kidnappings for ransom, and occasional acts of violence. Like many dacoits of the Chambal, he enjoyed a degree of local support, often portrayed as a rebel fighting against injustice and oppression.
While details of his life and motivations are somewhat shrouded in folklore and legend, he is remembered for his rebellion against the established order. His activities posed a significant challenge to law enforcement in the region for a considerable period.
Ultimately, Daku Maharaj was either killed in an encounter with the police or surrendered (accounts vary). This marked the end of his reign of terror, though the legacy of dacoity continued in the Chambal for many years afterward.
